What Are My Favorite Highlighters?

by - Wednesday, August 22, 2018

I don't usually wear highlighters as I'm oily enough as it is, but when I do, I prefer subtle highlighters over the wild, glitzy, NikkieTutorials highlighters that you see on Instagram. But nevertheless, I do have my favorite highlighters.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit
This is technically a palette, but I love the Moonchild Glow Kit as it's different from any other highlighter I own. The palette itself has six pastel highlighters: Blue Ice, which appears to be a white-blue highlighter, Star, which is a blue-green, Purple Horseshoe, which is a purple, Pink Heart, which is a pink, Lucky Clover, which is a pastel green, and Blue Moon, a pastel blue. The palette itself is quite shimmery, which is the opposite of what I like, but its uniqueness makes it a keeper for sure. The palette is $40, which adds up to roughly $7 per highlighter, but it is worth the money if you love unusual makeup products.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator Trio
Another highlighting palette I want to feature. The trio is made out of three deluxe-sized Baked Gelato Illuminators: Ballerina, which is a pure rose gold, Gilded Honey, a pure gold, and Peach Glow, a peachy pink. The Baked Gelato highlighters look pretty bright, but they are buildable and quite subtle to wear. The palette itself cost $32 (got on sale at Ulta for $17) and is only available on the Laura Geller website.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
This is technically a finishing powder, but the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder seems to work best as a finishing powder if you've got dry skin, so I keep it to just my cheekbones. The product itself is quite expensive at $46 per piece, but I love the finish it gives and it's quite subtle as well. I have the shade Luminous Light, which gives the effect of you standing under candlelight.

Dose of Colors Baked Highlighter (discontinued)
Sadly, the Dose of Colors Baked Highlighter has been long discontinued, but it is one of my favorite highlighters because of how subtle it is. It actually reminds me of the finish that the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder gives. I have the shade Pearl Dust, which appears pink with white highlighter marbled in which gives a soft silver finish.

Makeup Revolution Unicorn Hearts Highlighter
The Unicorn Hearts Highlighter is only available on the Makeup Revolution website, but it is a beautiful highlighter. It is one of those rainbow highlighters, but when swirled together, it makes a beautiful silvery color.
