4 Reasons Why Self Care is Not Selfish

Self-care is very important when it comes to well-being, but unfortunately, many people can take self-care the wrong way and say it's selfish and how they don't have time for it, so you shouldn't either. Self-care is not selfish; in fact, it's the best thing you can do to yourself and there are some reasons why.

You can't run on empty
Just like how your car won't run when it has no fuel, you can't run when you're so bogged down with everything. You won't do as well at your job, you won't do as well at school, and you'll most likely suffer a breakdown if you don't take time out to take care of yourself once in a while.

It keeps your feelings in check
Nothing is worse when someone asks you a question and you're so overwhelmed you explode like a volcano. Taking care of yourself prevents you from bottling everything up and unwittingly having everything explode like a shaken bottle of soda.

You focus on yourself, not others
We spend so much time focusing on what other people want, that sometimes we forget to put ourselves first. By practicing self-care, you get to focus on what you want, and how you're feeling in the moment, rather than how little Susan's doing or how your coworker Becky is doing.

It lessens the amount of stress you feel daily
Having a lot of stress is bad-it can cause health problems as well as mental problems. Taking 10-15 minutes to unwind each day is a wonderful way to start, and having the weekends to only focus on yourself and your family, no work or anything else is a great way to de-stress and enjoy spending time with your family.
