Reviewing Borderlands 3 & Going Through Amara's Skills

by - Monday, October 28, 2019

I was kindly gifted Borderlands 3 from a friend after seeing everyone else on the damn planet play this game, and now that I've finally been playing for a bit, it's time for me to do a review!

Borderlands 3 introduces 4 new characters: FL4K the Beastmaster (fun fact: you can pet the pet no matter what character you play), Moze the Gunner, Zane the Operative, and Amara the Siren. Of course, me having mained Sirens the previous two games, I picked Amara.

Borderlands 3 also introduces a lot of old characters, like Moxxi, Marcus, Lilith, Maya, Claptrap, and Tannis, but also introduces new characters, primarily the Calypso twins, Tyreen and Troy, who basically have a cult-like following and want to find the Great Vault. Tyreen is a Siren who has the ability to suck the life force out of anything she touches, and Troy is technically a parasitic Siren-not a true Siren since he only gains power from leeching the power off other Sirens. Your goal is to beat the Calypso twins to the Great Vault and stop them from basically taken over the world. Not to spoil anything, but whoever you see in the 2nd Borderlands game might end up being hurt or killed in this game which I experienced the hard way,

Now moving onto Amara's abilities...Amara has 3 abilities:

Phaseslam-This is a new ability that Amara has, and this ability allows her to deal Shock damage to her enemies.

Phasegrasp-This is similar to Maya's Phaselock ability from Borderlands 2 in the sense that it holds enemies captive for a short time.

Phasecast-Phasecast is similar to Lilith's Phasewalk, but instead of turning invisible, Amara sends out an astral projection that damages enemies.

So far, I found that Phasecast and Phaseslam were my most helpful abilities, with Phaseslam helping with the hordes of psychos and Phasecast helping with the boss fights.

Overall, I bloody love the game, as I'm a huge fan of the Borderlands series myself, and I can't wait to finish the game and  find more characters like Tiny Tina. The one gripe I have with the game is that every time you die to a boss, the boss regains all lost health, so you basically have to start over again-a stark contrast to the previous Borderlands game. Due to this aspect, it makes Borderlands 3 a very co-op focused game, which is lucky for some of you, but for others like me, you'll have difficulty finding people for your game, but I have a personal rule that as long as one other person is playing with you, you should be fine.

Have you played Borderlands before?
